Waiting Families

Waiting Family At Children's Home Society of Virginia

Henry and Lindsey

Hello,

Thank you for considering us during your very difficult decision.  We honor your sacrifice and bravery and hope you can find an adoptive family that exceeds your expectations.  My name is Lindsey and my husband’s name is Henry.  We have been married for four years. We met seven years ago while out with friends.  Both of our previous relationships had ended and we definitely didn’t think that on that night we would meet our future spouse.  We became friends immediately and realized that we had many things in common such as the same occupation, teaching. We have a great time together, talking, laughing and exploring the world around us. Our personalities compliment one another; while I am a relaxed, down to earth homebody and Henry an energetic extrovert, we make a great team. We think communication is key in a relationship so we take the time when we are able to “walk and talk” and have dinner together. We enjoy taking trips to new places, going to museums, and camping. My husband and I have been dreaming of having our own family from the beginning of our relationship and we hope to share our hobbies and interests with our child.

I am an elementary art teacher and an artist.  I love to paint and create with different materials whenever I am able. Reading, gardening and cooking (cupcakes are my favorite) are a few of my other hobbies.  I love children.  Most of my students would describe me as fun but I would say my most positive personality trait is patience.

Henry is a self-described energetic big kid.  He finds the fun in all that he does.  He plays ice hockey and can’t wait to teach our child to skate. He also enjoys running and tinkering around the house.   Henry is a high school teacher in our community, who is committed to forming personal relationships with his students, always working towards their academic and personal success. My husband has a heart of gold and loves honestly and openly which I believe are qualities found in a good parent.

We own a beautiful home in a suburban neighborhood with good schools and a park in our backyard. We chose the location of our home with the intent of raising a family. There are many children in our neighborhood who ride bikes and play in the cul-de-sac. The park behind our home hosts a variety of little league practices, games and an impressive playground.  We live near the city so there is always something to do. We are active in our neighborhood church that has a large child/youth program.  We have many great opportunities to offer a child.

We plan to provide our child with a great education from elementary to college.  Although we both need to work and will have to use daycare; we have great schedules (my workday is over at 2:45.) We will be able to spend summers, long holidays, and weekends together.

My husband and I assumed we would have a baby at a certain time and place in our lives but that didn’t quite workout the way we thought. We attempted to have a baby naturally for several years only to discover that we were infertile.  After a year of reflecting on what we truly wanted, we made the choice to adopt. Families can be created and may look very differently, but the truth is that love is the only requirement. We will not have secrets in our home and will answer questions and share information whenever our child asks. We are excited to begin a family and we know that we have hearts that will love unconditionally.  We wish you many blessings and thank you again for taking the time to read our letter.

Sincerely,
Henry and Lindsey
