Position Description
Director of DevelopmentThe Director of Development is responsible for garnering resources from all constituencies (individuals, corporations, foundations, government and civic agencies, churches etc.) on behalf of CHSVA. The Director of Development is also expected to develop programs that will increase the endowment of the CHSVA Memorial Fund and other programs approved by the Board, whether restricted or unrestricted. Through fundraising and developing relationships, the Director will raise visibility and awareness about CHSVA. This position reports to the President/CEO of CHSVA and coordinates regularly with the Memorial Fund officers and Board.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Providing advice and counsel on fundraising matters to the CHSVA President/CEO and the Chair of the Memorial Fund
- Serving as Secretary of the Memorial Fund Board of Directors
- Staffing all committees of the Memorial Fund Board of Directors
- Staffing the solicitation by the Board of major gift prospects
- Developing an ongoing planned giving and major gift program that includes cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship that leads to an ever increasing expectancy file of donors
- Annual giving including direct mail and personalized leadership appeals
- Preparing and tracking grant proposals and reports
- Overseeing fundraising special events
- Identifying new major donors to achieve fundraising goals
- Supervising one full time and one part time employee
- Working with the staff and board to develop and implement strategies that support CHSVA’s strategic objectives
Experience and Qualifications Required:
- Strong background in fundraising using multiple strategies
- Demonstrated ability to work with board members and other volunteers to raise funds
- Ability to manage own priorities, workload and schedule with minimal direct supervision and shift readily between various assignments
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and verbal written skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience

Position Description
Job Responsibilities:
The Recruitment and Communications Coordinator will facilitate the recruitment of adoptive parents and help increase public awareness of CHSVA adoption programs by utilizing a variety of methods to communicate and build relationships with businesses, organization, civic groups and faith-based groups. He or she will proactively assist the agency with marketing, public relations and outreach efforts. Essential duties and responsibilities will include:
- Work closely with the Partnership for Adoptions (PFA) team to help increase the number of families available to adopt, helping to meet recruitment goals established annually by the PFA Director
- Provide support to agency social worker efforts to recruit adoptive families and inform and educate potential adoptive parents
- Develop recruitment and marketing materials to educate prospective adoptive parents
- Identify target businesses, civic and faith based organizations to recruit adoptive families and increase awareness about CHSVA
- Conduct public speaking engagements and other events to educate and recruit potential adoptive parents and increase public awareness about adoption and CHSVA’s programs
- Write and submit recruitment reports as necessary
- Create and maintain a database of contacts, success and methods used in recruitment process so the agency has the infrastructure to support future family recruitment and marketing objectives
- Collect statistics about the need for and impact of adoption that can be used to help educate the public and recruit prospective adoptive families
- Establish and chair an adoption recruitment advisory council
- Develop and coordinate National Foster Care and Adoption Month activities to support the agency’s recruitment goals
- Serve as the primary contact with the agency’s website designer to ensure that the content is accurate and up to date
- Plan effective use of media through press releases and participation in community activities
- Write, edit and disseminate news releases and articles
- Develop relationships with journalists, providing them with news stories that pertain to the organization and/or a particular issue regarding adoption. Direct them to experts/spokespeople to interview for these news stories
- Write, edit and produce agency newsletter
- Design agency’s yellow page advertisements
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as marketing, journalism, communications, or English.
- At least three years of public relations or other communications related experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing.
- Good judgment, creativity, and an enthusiastic attitude.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective personal relationships.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and use of the Internet. Graphic and/or web design experience a plus.
