Adoption Options: Infant Adoption
The agency is seeking adoptive parents for healthy infants and toddlers of all races, as well as those who have health issues. We offer both Agency Placement and Parental Placement options:
- Agency Placement – This is when you adopt a child who is in the custody of an agency. You may meet the birth parents though all contact information is kept confidential. Pictures and letters may be exchanged using the agency’s social worker as an intermediary.
- Parental Placement – This is when the birth parent(s) choose an adoptive family, meet them, and exchange information based upon the comfort level of all involved.
In order to adopt, adoptive parents complete a Home Study that is an assessment of your background(s) and motivation to adopt. This is required by Virginia law and on average takes three months to complete.
The agency social worker who is counseling the birth mother, and working with you, will complete 3 supervisory visits once the baby joins your family. The agency also makes sure all the legal work is completed.
We encourage you to attend one of our Orientation sessions that are held regularly at each of our three offices or call and speak with one of our social workers who can explain the process in greater detail.
